So today marks 1 of 8 days of scheduled transportation strikes in Kathmandu. There have also been strikes for 3 of the last 4 days. This means no school, no work, no going to church, etc. One of the most strictly enforced strikes was on Friday when our first mission team from church flew in. I was praying Psalm 20:6-8 which says:
Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.
And God answered sovereignly and they made it here safely. Kishor and Nathan ran into a little trouble, but then the van driver that they had on the way home seemed to know everyone that stopped them and they made it home without anyone giving too much trouble.
There is another deadline for the constitution at the end of the month, so it seems like the next few weeks may be a little crazy. There are different cast groups that all have their own demands and the way the choose to express them is by shutting the whole city down. The last 3 days of the 8 this week are actually by a Muslim group. Yesterday there was no strike so we got out in the city to do some site seeing and buy supplies. We will do a lot of work around the home and work with the kids since they won't have school either. We've been trying to explain to the kids that this is not normal and shouldn't be acceptable, but it's all they know. My conclusion...this is a strange, strange country.
But here's some more pictures from the last week!
